You've Finally Found a Good Nanny, Now Here's How to Keep Her.

A Supernan Nanny with a child under her care

Hello fellow parents,

I’m not just the founder of Supernan; I’m a mom of two, juggling the never-ending ballet of school runs, bedtime stories, and everything in between. I started Supernan because I know how transformative a great nanny can be—not just for us as parents but for our kids too. Each new nanny that comes through our app doesn’t just bring relief; they bring a new chapter of nurture and growth.

Let’s chat about making this transition as smooth and heartwarming as it can be, based on what I’ve learned and lived through.

1. Give It Time

The first meeting between your child and a new nanny can feel a bit like a first date—awkward and tentative. It’s unrealistic to expect them to bond instantly. I recommend staying around only for the initial interactions. This not only helps your child feel secure but also gives the nanny the chance to learn the ropes directly from you. After that, give the nanny and child one-on-one time and intervene only if absolutely necessary. Give the nanny a chance to try and build a bond with the child by sorting out minor issues on her own.

2. Everyone Needs a Breather

Imagine working straight through eight hours or more without a moment to yourself. Sounds tough, right? Our nannies also need short breaks to maintain their energy and care quality. These breaks allow them to recharge, making them more effective and attentive to your child’s needs. Encouraging a healthy work environment shows respect for their well-being and dedication.

3. Housework Isn’t in the Job Description

Our nannies are there for one incredibly important reason—to care for your children. If the dishes are piling up or the floors need a sweep, remember, that’s not on their to-do list, even as a one off. Keeping these boundaries clear from the get-go avoids any issues as clearly mentioned in the terms and conditions on our app as well as our website.

4. Nannies Get Sick Too

Just like us, nannies might get sick or have apersonal emergency. I’ve been there; scrambling to cover a gap when the unexpected happens. We’re all human, and at Supernan, we’ve got a plan for these moments. We’ll send you a back-up nanny if there is one available in your locality (there usually is, as we have a big network of nannies.) or as a last resort, we will process a refund for the day / days that your nanny is on leave.

5. Safe Splashing Only, Please

For the safety and hygiene of your children, our policy only allows bathing in a tub rather than on slippery, unstable surfaces like adult legs. Tub bathing is not only safer but allows children to associate bathtime with fun and relaxation, not fear or discomfort.

6. Make Them Feel at Home

How you treat your nanny reflects in their job satisfaction and ultimately, the care your child receives. Small gestures like offering a comfortable place to sit, or a warm meal can go a long way. Treating them with respect and kindness helps establish a positive, familial atmosphere that enhances their commitment and affection towards your child.

7. Feedback? Let’s Chat

Got some thoughts or concerns? Let’s talk through Supernan. Direct feedback can be tricky and sometimes taken the wrong way. If you channel it through us, we can ensure it’s delivered in a way that’s constructive and helpful.

8. Keep to the Schedule

Keeping to the agreed schedule not only helps in maintaining daily routines but also respects the nanny’s time and commitments. Due to unavoidable circumstances, as a one-off, if you need to make adjustments, updating them through our Customer Support ensures transparency and helps the nanny plan their commitments accordingly.

9. Only Through Supernan

Our platform provides a structured environment for both nannies and families. This includes professional boundaries that protect both parties. For instance, asking a nanny to bypass Supernan and work directly for you undermines the security and benefits we provide them like their health insurance, accident cover and other benefits. Please honor these boundaries to avail the benefits of a back-up nanny when your nanny is on leave or a replacement that Supernan provides parents with if they are unsatisfied with their existing nanny. This will help maintain a professional and secure service.

10. One-on-One Care

To ensure that each child gets individual attention and care, we enforce a one-nanny-per-child policy. If you need help with multiple children, we are more than happy to help arrange additional support.

Navigating this parenting journey with a little help doesn’t just ease your burden; it enriches your family’s life. So here’s to new beginnings, to the helping hands that make them possible, and to all of us growing together.

With warmth and understanding,

Neethi
